Mommy Cars with Isofix To Consider

Safety has never taken a back seat with us at Subaru, because we understand that — while every seat in the car deserves the utmost attention when it comes to precaution — it’s most often what’s in the backseat that makes safety a non-negotiable: your bambino!

When you consider that accidents on our roads are a daily occurance and a prominent concern, it makes sense that child occupant safety is a top factor in safety crash-test ratings. With Subaru being the only car brand across the globe to have a 5-star safety rating with several Top Safety Pick Plus awards too, a Subaru is born-ready to be a mommy car.

There’s more to being rest-assured about when it comes to your mini-me than just the safety innovations of the car itself, which is where the ISOFIX baby car seat comes in. There’s no such thing as too much when it comes to safety, right? Right!

What is ISOFIX?

ISOFIX is the international standard for attachment points for child safety seats in passenger cars.

How Does ISOfix Help Moms?

ISOFIX ensures:

  • a permanent connection between your car seat and the car, where — in the case of a sudden brake incident — less force will impact on your little one
  • quick installation and easy removal, which is particularly convenient for baby car seats, thanks to the ISOFIX base. Click & Go installation enables you to fit our baby car seat onto the base with a simple “click” and you are ready to “go”
  • minimal risk of incorrect installation as indicators indicate a correct installation

Which cars have ISOFIX?

Subarus, of course! You and your mini-me are guaranteed of all the safety features, precautions and groundbreaking tech with every Subaru model — ISOFIX included. Why? Because there’s safe, and then there’s Subaru safe.

And while we’re confident of our own achievements in this category, we’re self-assured enough as a brand to salute the work any of our peers do when it comes to safety. For your information, here’s a quick look at some of the other mommy cars that we also like to call ISOFIX cars:

  • Mazda 3 Hatchback
  • VW T-Cross
  • VW Tiguan
  • Hyundai Tucson
  • Ford Everest
  • Nissan X-Trail
  • Toyota Corolla Hatchback

Compatible ISOFIX baby car seats

The range of ISOFIX car seats in South Africa is an intriguing list, and we’ve compiled some of the most noteworthy options here for your consideration.

AXKID MODUKID

Exclusively made for cars with ISOFIX, connecting easily with one simple click to the ISOFIX base — perfect for easy-to-manage connection and dis-connection, especially between moving your baby’s car seat between two parents’ different cars, etc.

BESAFE IZI KID X3

Suitable for babies between 6-months and ±4 years of age. This unit is designed for ISOFIX use exclusively with additional protection that reduces load on the child by up to 20%. The anti-rebound brace reduces the rebound forces and the load leg reduces downward rotation forces in a collision.

BESAFE IZI TWIST

This model is perfect for use in infants sized 61cm to 105cm / 18kg (approximately 6-months to 4 years of age), offering convenient side-to-side rotation which helps you get your child in or out by rotating the seat towards you.

AXKID REKID

This particular ISOFIX baby car seat is suitable for infants 6-months through to ±6 years of age. This model passed the Swedish Plus Test (the most difficult crash test to pass in the world) and comes with an internal harness and headrest that automatically adjusts to your child’s length and size. It has 3 recline settings and sufficient legroom to keep your child comfortable as they grow.

AXKID ONE+

This unit is (currently) the only rear-facing ISOFIX seat on the market that is suitable for babies from birth (40cm) through to 125cm or approx 7 years of age. Most multi-stage car seats aren’t designed for newborns, however AXKID ONE+ achieves a safe and comfortable fit from birth through to ±7 years of age.

The benefits of ISOFIX cars underpin why this is an installation feature at manufacturer level, and while this doesn’t mean that ISOFIX can’t be retrofitted, remember that any ISOFIX brackets that need to be installed in a vehicle after purchase must be checked and approved with the vehicle manufacturer concerned.
