Your Own Mini DIY Car Vacuuming Tips
The smell of the rain before it starts, a freshly mowed lawn, onion and garlic frying in a pan, freshly baked bread, a South African braai that your neighbours are having… and the smell of a new car. Easily life’s top smells to mention! All of them are things we wish we could bottle and keep forever… although… then, would we be as grateful to smell them?
Keeping your car clean goes a long way to preserving its newness — and the smell that goes with it. And while the latter will fade, your pride for your fine purchase doesn’t have to. Car vacuuming should be a fairly simple chore (especially if done regularly), that will keep the inside free of dirt, grime and odours that could have your car smelling like something else altogether
Car Vacuuming Hacks
How to vacuum your car?
Here are some car vacuuming tips to keep in mind:
Open it up
Start by opening all your car’s doors. This will give you better access to more parts of your car’s interior (without having to go in through one door at a time). Opening the doors also creates ventilation, which will help air out stale, musty odours.
Equipment
Start with the right tools, such as a powerful vacuum cleaner and attachments of different scopes, including brushes. These attachments will help you get to those hard-to-reach-places, while the brushes will help you take care around the parts you want to clean — without damaging them.
Clear the space
Remove personal items, clutter, and any rubbish such as paper cans and/or bags. Check the floor, door pockets and holders of the car and clear as much of the visual mess as possible.
Vacuum all the loose dirt
Start your car vacuuming process by sucking up all the loose dirt. For best results, take the floor mats out of the car and do those there, separately. Vacuum the seats, the seat folds, the carpet and any other areas that the vacuum cleaner can reach.
Use large attachments when car vacuuming larger spaces, and use extenders and nozzles to reach areas between / under the seats.
Remember, timespan between your car vacuuming chores means you have a greater, lengthier task ahead of you.
How to vacuum between car seats?
While the carpet may look clean after a thorough car vacuuming, it’s often not. Most the dirt and grit is crushed into the mats and carpet lining of the body of your car. Use a stiff brush to help you work this dirt and grime loose; once they’re brought to the surface, the vacuum can work more effectively. Use a softer brush to whisk dust from tight panel seems, vents, and various nooks, as well as around tight areas where the vacuum cannot reach.
Then use the brushes to get to the fibres in the folds and seams along the fabric.
To round off your car’s refreshed look, wipe and polish your dashboard and interiors (with suitable products as per your manual’s guidelines), and get the outside spotless — so that it matches the inside.
